COMPANY PROFILE
Founded in 1994, Hantmans specializes in estate auction and appraisal services in the Metropolitan Washington D.C. area and along the East Coast.
Hantmans offers four types of auction services: (1) nationally and iswnternationally advertised catalogue auctions for high-end fine art and antiques, (2) non-catalogue auctions for collectibles and general residential contents, (3) specialized subject auctions, and (4) on-site auctions.
Auctions are conducted in a traditional live gallery setting with absentee and telephone bidding services available. Depending on the type of auction, many live auctions include a simulcast on-line eBay auction component. In those sales, catalogues are fully illustrated in color on eBay and are available also in hard copy.
Over the years, Hantmans has sold many prominent American and European estates, including property from historic homes, institutions, historical societies and museums. In a typical catalogue auction, property includes 17th-20th century American, European and Asian jewelry, silver, furniture, porcelain, ceramics, glass, fine art, fireplace accessories, sculpture, rugs and textiles.
In a typical year, Hantmans conducts 5-6 catalogue auctions and several non-catalogue auctions. Property is advertised in prominent antique trade publications in the United States (Maine Antique Digest, Antiques and the Arts Weekly) and abroad and is proactively promoted to collectors, museums, collector clubs and associations.
Auctions are held in Potomac and Rockville, Maryland, and in Morris Plains, New Jersey, outside Manhattan.
